Broad Street Project Completed
The Broad Street Reconstruction
Project was completed on November 28, 2011.
The timeline for this project was quite short. Construction started in
early June and was completely finished by the end of November. It took almost
ten years to get the project up and running. It’s finally over!
DH Smith, the project
contractor performed a great job. Very few complaints came to the office
regarding the construction. The few complaints that were received were handled
in a timely fashion. The greatest obstacle was the thoroughfare to Waterville
being closed and it created a larger travel time for three months.
Now Broad Street has new
water and sewer lines, new under drainage for groundwater, sidewalks, bridge
near Mill Street is replaced, curbs, pavement and no potholes. There was a
beautiful railing and columns placed at the Mill Street Bridge to replace a
wrought iron rail.
Parking lot was installed
on the Villages lot on lower Broad Street to keep local traffic off of the side
of the road and to create a safer travel for pedestrians and vehicles. Not to
mention it just looks better.
The Village Board of
Trustees worked with project Engineer Jack Dodson and contractor Dave Smith
closely throughout the project to prevent any unnecessary problems and to offer
input.
Thank you to all involved
and affected for being patient. It’s done!
Local Ice Skating
Once again the Village DPW has put the ice skating rink up for public
use. For the past couple of years the ice skating rink has been at the Fire House on Madison Street. There are
lights, parking and its easily accessible for the public.
The skating rink doesn’t
receive many visitors throughout the winter months. Once the ice is frozen
please make use of this activity.!
The only cost you may incur is
for the purchase of your own ice skates. The rules for the Villages ice skating
rink are that children must have adult supervision, use good judgment and skate at your
own risk.
Hours of operation will be from
9AM until 9PM. This is free of charge.
Have
a wonderful time!
Stone Church News
The Stone Church
Restoration Committee along with several community volunteers put on a homemade
Kielbasa Dinner November 19, 2011 at the American Legion Post 569. There were 38 dinners sold, a 50/25/25 raffle
and the snow blower raffle. The winners
of the 50/25/25 raffle were Carol Jordan and a Member of the Village Board of
Trustees Brian Bell. They both donated the money back to the Stone Church
Restoration Fund.
The
snow blower raffle was a huge success, selling 298 tickets and bringing in a
profit of $1,994. The snow blower was purchased from Whites Farm Supply. The
winner was from Waterville, Barbara Ames.
Most
of the food was donated by Mario’s Pizzeria, Wesley and Tammy Wendt of White
Eagle Conference Center and drinks were from Vernon Dairy. The American Legion
donated the use of the building and gift certificates were donated for the
purchase of supplies from Hannaford and Price Chopper.
With
the raffles and dinner the Committee raised $2,283. Since the Committee formed
in 2009 they have raised through fund raiser and local donations just over
$6,000. Great job community sponsors and
committee member!
The Village applied for a grant through the NYS Office of
Parks and Recreation and Historic Preservation, Environmental Protection Fund. Unfortunately the Village got denied
the grant due to 324 communities applying and asking for $170 million, they
only had $13.3 million to give away. The Village was hoping to get the roof
replaced and to receive funds to help with Engineering Designs and
Archeological Surveys. The Village will apply again in 2012.
Village Election
This
year’s Election is to be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at the Village Clerks

years each.

it to the Oneida County Board of Elections before March 9, 2012.If you plan on
running for a position on the Village Board in this year's election the

appropriate deadlines. If you have any questions you may contact the Oneida
County Board of Elections at 798-5643 or you may consult with an Attorney to
receive required information.
Winter Parking and Travel
Another
year another reminder! The Village DPW will be working hard to keep the roads
and sidewalks clear of snow banks. It is extremely important that you
keep your vehicles off of the road and sidewalks through the winter months so
the Village, Town and County can keep the snow off the road/sidewalks. If your
vehicle is in their way you will get a ticket and possibly have your car
removed. Please consider
your parking.
Every spring the Village DPW needs to
repair destroyed yards from plowing sidewalks. To prevent this, the Village
Board is asking that residents please put up sidewalk markers. Some sidewalks
are only 4’ wide and the Village equipment is 5’ wide.
The sidewalks
are plowed at a convenience to residents and usually get cleaned in the early
morning hours. Please be patient with the Village DPW, they try hard to get it
done as fast as possible. Residents
of Broad Street please do not put ice melt on the new sidewalks this year, use
sand instead.
